The right to sport and the role of legislation in supporting it within the educational community

Abstract

Sport is considered as one of the basic needs within society and is a human right. This prompted many countries to search for a legal framework to regulate it. Algeria, like other countries, has sought to regulate this field by issuing an arsenal of laws from independence to the present days. The latest one was law N° 13-05 dated on July 23, 2013 related to regulating and developing sports and physical activities. This study aims at shedding light on a set of laws, which regulate the right of children/Pupils to practice sport in the Algerian legislation and the extent to which it guarantees the exercise of this right inside the school environment.
