Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the contribution of different types of play to the development of the sensory-motor aspect in children aged 9–12 years, with the objective of enhancing physical abilities and motor skills that lead to improved motor performance.

To achieve this aim, the researchers adopted the descriptive-analytical method. The study tools consisted of observation and a questionnaire administered to a randomly selected sample of 10 primary school teachers from western Algeria.

Following the statistical analysis of the data using percentages and the Chi-square test through the SPSS program, the results revealed that different types of play have a positive effect on improving children’s sensory-motor behavior. The findings also indicated that play contributes to the formation of initial motor experiences and helps develop the speed of understanding motor skills, which ultimately leads to better motor performance.
