This study aimed to establish normative standards for evaluating selected anthropometric measurements and physical fitness attributes for the selection of a school handball team among students aged 15–17 years at Barika El Jadida Secondary School, Batna Province, Algeria. These standards were developed using a scientific and standardized approach, with the participation of university academics, handball specialists, and experienced coaches from different regions of the country. The researcher adopted the descriptive method due to its suitability for the nature and objectives of the study. The sample consisted of 120 students who were purposively selected. Data were collected through a series of anthropometric measurements and physical fitness tests and were subsequently analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).
The findings enabled the researcher to identify and select a representative school handball team. The study also demonstrated that the periodic establishment of normative standards for selected anthropometric and physical fitness characteristics provides an effective means of monitoring changes in players’ abilities. Such standards can serve as reliable indicators for talent identification and selection, thereby facilitating the work of physical education teachers and coaches in the process of selecting school handball teams.
